Young patients who desire their lips to be larger and fuller to help enhance their facial features.

Young women who wants to look more sensuous and feminine and highlight the mid portion of their face.

Older women, who with age have noticed that their upper lip has not only become thinner but also droopier, allowing the space between the bottom of the nose and upper lip to lengthen. This sign of aging is particularly distressing and can be easily reversed using lip augmentation techniques.

Gravity and age take their toll on most parts of the face including the lips, which tend to lose their bulk over the years, becoming thinner and recessed. This produces a much wider, less desirable gap between the upper lip border and the tip of the nose.

Those patients that do not need lip augmentation at the time of their facial surgery can use the skin to plump up and eliminate their smile or frown lines, or may choose to freeze the excess skin, which they may then add to their lips years later.

When rejuvenating the face, it is important to consider the distance between the lip and the nose and the plump the upper lip to diminish this sign of aging. During a facelift, the excess skin that is normally excised and discarded can now be used. Dr. Sachs takes the otherwise unless skin and uses a CO2 laser to vaporize the top portion of the epidermis. An incision is then made into each side of the inner lip and the lasered skin is molded and shaped into a fuller upper and lower lip.

For the youthful patient who simply wants fuller lips, an incision is made in the scalp without any hair loss and a piece of dermis and muscle is removed from beneath the incision. No scar is visible because it is concealed within the hairline. Then similar to the procedure above, the lip is prepared to accept the fully shaped dermal muscle implant to produce the desired plumping effect. Because the skin is from the patient, there is no change of any allergic reaction. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in approximately 15 minutes.
