Facial reanimation is a family of different surgical techniques to make one's paralyzed face move more normally.

Any patient who has suffered an injury to the facial nerve, the nerve that controls facial movement is a candidate. Patients with this condition who have not had treatment for over 30 years have been successfully helped.

The techniques are many, but center upon micro-neurological surgery to either re-suture the damaged nerve or move new muscles and nerves into the face to take the place of the injured facial nerve.

A new patent for electronically controlling the face by miniature micro chip technology has been awarded to Michael Sachs, M.D.
