Otoplasty
surgery corrects prominent or protruding ears and sets
then back closer to the head or reduces them in size.
This technique also describes a procedure for making aged
large ear lobes smaller more refined and youthful.

Any patient who does not like the size or shape of their
ears is an excellent candidate for this type of surgery.
Patients
in their 40's-70's who have long, hanging floppy ear lobes
are also excellent candidates for ear lobe surgery.
Patients
of any age can have this surgery performed.

There
are several techniques used to achieve the correctly balanced
size and shaped ear. Most commonly, incisions are made
behind the ear to allow the folding, suturing and rotation
of the ear cartilage to achieve a more natural shape and
position. The procedure usually takes 45 minutes.
Ear lobe reduction surgery requires a small incision in
the area of the ear lobe from which the extra tissue is
removed and the ear lobe is reshaped into a more refined,
younger looking ear. This procedure usually takes approximately
15 minutes per ear lobe.

Sutures
and dressings are removed about one week after surgery.
Most people return to school or work in 7 days. Patients
who are having just ear lobe surgery can return to work
the same day, with the stitches being removed at one week.
